A Piggly Wiggly at 3135 E Roane Ave in Eupora, Mississippi. The origin of the name remains one of retail’s great mysteries — founder Clarence Saunders was curiously reluctant to explain it. One story says he saw pigs struggling under a fence from a train window. When asked why the unusual name, he replied, “So people will ask that very question.” Nearly a century later, it’s still working.
