Site of the First McDonald's Drive-Thru

Food · Historical

The first McDonald’s drive-thru was created in 1975 in Sierra Vista, Arizona, near Fort Huachuca. The reason? Military members weren’t allowed to get out of their cars off-post while wearing fatigues, so McDonald’s built a window so soldiers could get Big Macs without violating dress code. The original building was demolished in 1999, but the concept it invented now accounts for roughly 70% of all fast food sales in America.
